I have been reading Ezra for a couple of weeks. It is sooo good!

How lovely is Your dwelling place, I long and yearn for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh cry out for the Living God… How Happy are those who reside in Your house, who praise You continually. Happy are the people whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage… Better a day in Your courts than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather be at the door of the house of my God than to live in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is a sun and a shield. The Lord give grace and glory; He does not withhold the good from those who live with integrity. Happy is the person who trusts in You!
Do you long for God’s house? Does your heart and your flesh cry out for MORE of Him? Reside with Him! Praise Him! Trust Him! Set your sight, your pilgrimage on Him and let nothing get in your way! He is our sun. He warms us, He lights our way, He is life to us. He is our shield. He protects us from the enemy! Get behind Him! He goes before us! Accept His grace. Accept His glory! Only in Him is true happiness, true peace! His dwelling place is lovely! Have you found it?
Lord, Your faithful love reaches to heaven, Your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountain; Your judgements, like the deepest sea. Lord, You preserve man and beast. God, Your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They are filled from the abundance of Your house; You let them drink from Your refreshing stream, for with You is life’s fountain. In Your light we will see light. Spread Your faithful love over those who know You, and Your righteousness over the upright in heart.
Psalm 51:10-12 God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not banish me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore the joy of Your salvation to me, and give me a willing spirit. v.6 Surely You desire integrity in the inner self, and You teach me wisdom deep within. v.17 The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit and humbled heart.
Heart. It is all about Heart! Our life with Christ is not at all about outward appearances or what we are doing for Jesus but what is on the inside, what is in our heart! What is on the inside? Integrity? Wisdom? Joy? My quiet time today says that David went from overwhelming remorse (from his sins) to overflowing joy (a restored relationship)! What about the sin in my life? How many times do I ask forgiveness for my sin without remorse? I pray God would quicken my spirit, that I would not become so calloused to the things around me but that I would be sensitive to my sin. Sin robs our joy! Sin robs our fellowship. I am thinking about the “little” stuff. The impatience, the anger, the laziness, the disrespectful attitude… the list goes on and on. I pray that we all would know the overflowing joy that comes from a clean heart before God! We are born sinful. (v. 5) May we realize on a daily basis that nothing good dwells in us (Ps. 53) and that only by the blood of Jesus are we privileged to be called a child of God! Everday Lord, Create in me a clean heart.
Recently a friend of mine was sharing about her weekend to her friend’s house. Even among 11 children they were able to have meaningful discussion! 🙂 They were all about the tough questions on this weekend. Are you in the Word, how are you treating your husband, are you disciplining the children consistently in love… the list can go on and on. It made me think of how often we get together with our friends and our relationship with God does not even come up! Proverbs 28:23 One who rebukes a person will later find more favor than one who flatters with his tongue.. I am not necessarily talking about rebuking as I am our everyday conversations. Too often I think I may flatter with my tongue.. I speak “things” instead of speaking the Truth of God’s Word! We talk about “stuff” instead of talking about what God is doing in our lives! I just finished reading through Job this morning and WOW! He has lost “everything” from an earthly perspective and now his wife and closest friends accuse him of being evil, even wicked. As a friend I pray that the Lord would give me a heavenly perspective and not one of this world, that I would be able to comfort and speak the Truth and not just my “opinions” on any given matter, not judging the outward appearance but finding what is from the heart. No one around Job was speaking Truth! May we all have the courage to speak the Truth, to find the Truth when we do not know it. May we take our relationships one step deeper and hold each other accountable by asking the “tough” questions. May we have “meaningful” conversation. Job’s “spiritual” friends were giving him “advice” from an earthly perspective. Job 22:7 says that the Lord was angry with them for NOT speaking the Truth about Him… May we be so careful about our words and may we always speak the TRUTH about Him!
Job 42:3,6 Surely I spoke about things I did not understand, things to wonderful for me to know. Therefore I take back my words and repent in dust and ashes.
James 1:19 Let everyone be quick to hear and slow to speak…
